Keep the cake simple. The more flowers and decorations you puts on the cake the more it will cost. And round cakes are cheaper than other shapes.
Have a buffet instead of a sit down dinner, and ask family members if they will make food. It’s a lot cheaper than hiring chefs.
When you buy a dress ask the consultant if there are any discounts available or if they can call the designer and ask for a price reduction.

Start with a plan. Know exactly what you want and what you can live without. Make a list of all the things that you have to have (ie a sit-down dinner, or fresh roses)… And a list of all the things that you would like to have (ie. a photo booth, a 5-tier cake)… And a wish list (honeymoon in Barbados). These lists can have anything, it’s up to you. Choose the Date. Choose a theme. My sister had a wonderful wedding with sunflowers as her theme. My best friend had a beautiful phantom of the opera theme with fog machines and everything. Choose the florist that is the least expensive; it will all be beautiful even if you do it on your own.

First, it is important to state that you can have a very elegant wedding on a tiny budget. Not knowing what that budget is though, here are some tips:

Have a dummy cake on display, with only one tier being real (for the cutting ceremony and pictures). You can have a sheet cake in the back off display with the same filling and frosting (fondant) for giving to guests. This can save you hundreds.

Elicit the help of your bridal party to help with decor, invitations, etc.

Forgo save the date cards.

Have a simple sit down dinner instead of a buffet, at buffets people tend to cram their plates with extra food they won’t actually eat (their eyes are bigger than their stomachs), and the caterers are aware of this and charge and prepare food to account for wastefulness. Simple sit down dinners may seem more expensive (and others may tell you they are) but they actually are not. Consider doing your printed materials yourself (go to the paper store for ideas and good prices) or hiring a freelance stationer.

If there is a flower district in your area, consider visiting them and comparing prices for in season flowers and vases. You can create your own elegant centerpieces relatively inexpensively.

There are tons of ways to cut corners without appearing to: get your notebook and start brainstorming.

If you have a uniquely themed wedding, the ambiance can help the affair look more expensive than it actually is. : )

Having a weekday or early day wedding will save you money. If you decide on a more formal evening wedding and reception, inquire at the venues if someone is having a wedding or reception before yours. If so, see if you can use some of the flowers or decoration from their wedding. You may be able to share the cost with the other couple and begin to plan your wedding colors and themes where they will flow from their ceremony to yours.

How do I deal with being ugly? I don't even want to go out anymore!?
I have always suffered from low-self esteem, even before my current age of 35, I dealt with severe teenage acne, awkward skinniness, braces and I started losing my hair at 19. Even though my teenage years were a true nightmare, I am suffering even more now in my 30s. I feel I look so ugly that I have a hard time leaving my apartment, even to walk my dogs. I avoid people and don’t like making eye contact in fear of revolting people. I don’t work right now and I am too fearful to go out looking for a job, let alone go to the gym and be around lots of people. I know that exercise would make me feel better overall but sometimes I can barely get out of bed. I have been diagnosed with major depression and anxiety. I had to shave my head recently as my hair got too messed up to do anything with. I am really suffering. I see other ugly people living productive lives yet I am unable to overcome it. Danny Devito made it, why can’t I? My girlfriend of 2 years recently left me stating that she is no longer attracted to me, which didn’t help much. I am at wit’s end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Like the elephant man. I think working out and getting in shape and getting my blood flowing will really help with my depression. What makes things so difficult is that everywhere I go, all I see are beautiful people and guys with a thick full head of hair (even old men). It is constantly overwhelming and it makes me feel like a leper. It is easy to say "who cares what other people think" but ultimately deep down, EVERYONE cares and wants to feel accepted and liked/loved.

also, why do you think it’s all about looks? come ON. you have to respect yourself first. make sure you shower every day, brush your teeth morning & night, wear clean clothes.. and most importantly, get a freakin job haha. then women will be more attracted to you because they will not think of you as an utter failure. which you aren’t. you just have to accept yourself and start TRYING to live a better life.

Look dude I’m a bodybuilder myself and i go to the gym wearing innapropriate band T shirt that say things like "fuck the system" and sometimes i wear steel toe boots…ect, my point is i dress rediculouse but I’m still in there working out. Some one once told me, if you go see a play and you don’t like the show you might still like the way they did the lighting or sound effects. Everyone has some upper hand. The opposite can be a problem too. People think I’m sexy and I feel uncomfortable about it, so I wear slightly baggy clothes that are conservative. What makes me feel better is dressing in a way that draws little attention to my appearance. Plain conservative clothes, maybe something that looks smart like a rain coat if its raining out or a baggy sweater if it’s cold. In reality, its whats in your head that really matters. If you don’t draw attention to your appearance, most other people will look past it, at least once you get to know them. If they aren’t able to than they’re shallow and lame.

You also have to stop feeling sorry for yourself, because it is just making everything worse. My mom always told me that you do have to be attracted to someone but there personality can make them more attractive. So what! It makes me stand out from all those cloned barbie dolls. You also can’t take yourself so seriously. Step in front of the mirror and have a good laugh. Go to the mall and buy some clothes that make you feel confident. Well the first question any therapist/psychiatrist would ask you would be "why do you think you are ugly?", which is what you need to figure out. Did somebody who you loved (besides your girlfriend, since it seems you have been feeling this way for awhile now) once tell you you are ugly?? Did you get bullied in grammar/high school?? Were you always depressed/suffering from low self esteem? These are the many questions that you need to find the answers to. You need to write down on a piece of paper when this all started, and what you can do to physically or even mentally feel better about yourself, so that you can go out into the world and live. You need to write down in steps the physical or even mental things that bother you about yourself. Once you understand and see the problems that you think are effecting your way of life, then you can slowly begin to change these problems. First off, you need to go to the doctor so he/she can provide you with the attention you need & deserve. The doctor will most likely give you medicine to have a better outlook on life, or even help you with your anxiety, which is great because I used to suffer from anxiety but I was taught in steps how to CHANGE this. & I did. After you do this, you need to get a job so that you can afford clothes/gym memberships/and so on. I would go out looking for jobs and save up for awhile. Once you have money, you can start to make positive changes to feel better about yourself. There are certain shampoos/conditions that actually believe it or not are for men like you who are loosing hair. You should really look into it if that is something that is truly bothering you. If you think you are overweight, or under weight, then going to the gym would be great. Believe me, no one will be looking at you. At first, yes you will feel insecure, but so do many other people at the gym. But, you know what? They are all there for one common reason: They wish to change how they feel about themselves!! People are in the same position as you are. Then, you need to get a style. Go to the mall, and buy clothes/shoes, or whatever youre interested in. You would be suprised how much a presentation will/can change someone. You will slowly but surely begin to feel better about yourself, and once you have confidence in yourself, other people will too. You will become social and then meet women. Do not ever doubt yourself. Doubting yourself only makes it okay for other’s to doubt you as well.

You and I sound so similar. I won’t look at people for fear I would be revolting them, I think I look like a hideous dwarf.

On the good side for you, you had a girlfriend and for 2 years! That is something. So you know you have what it takes to make a relationship last if you don’t let the low self esteem control you. I have never even gotten that far.

I didn’t like going to gyms, I didn’t want people looking at me, and also didn’t want to be distracted by a beautiful woman if I saw one and quickly looked away, as I always do, but my mind would be thinking about that situation when I should had been concentrating on lifting the weights. My solution to that was to get weights for my home. At one point I got too big from lifting all the time, and that was a different problem, because then people would look at me for being so freakishly muscular, and you can’t hide that, even loose clothes would cover the body, but the shear bulk was itself attention getting, and I hate bringing attention to myself.

I don’t know how to do it. I went to counseling for a while, but it wasn’t much help. I have never been in a steady relationship, if you don’t like yourself first, others won’t like you either. I don’t go on dates, I can’t talk to anybody I am attracted to. I have kind of given up, the companionship I have are from pets, I live alone with my pets and don’t have many friends. I don’t make eye contact with people, I don’t talk very much, and I haven’t worked out for 2.5 years, since my brother passed. As we get older it gets more difficult. I keep telling myself it will be over soon enough, maybe next time will be better. I rationalize it as that maybe I was such a bad creature before in a past life that now I am paying for it in this one, and also rationalize it that since so many guys have wives and cheat, or girlfriends and cheat, that they deserve to be with more than one woman and they make up for me not having a girlfriend/wife or whatever. The same for kids, so many have more than 2, that they make up for me not having one and never having one. I am 45 and don’t see having a family.

So now, I just stay to myself, I don’t date, I don’t talk with many people, I try to be a good person with a good heart, I rescue wolves and wolfdogs and they are my family and as far as I can tell they are the reason I am still here. I buy toys I want, motorcycles and cars and have fun driving/riding them, I watch a lot of movies alone, listen to music, read and stay in my office at work. I find enjoyment away from people, nobody to look at me and I get through life this way. I laugh and smile when dealing with my animal companions, to them it doesn’t matter how ugly I am, they love me anyway.

I don’t know if any of this helped, but it is what gets me through life day to day. If you were in a relationship once, you can do it again, just keep the stuff about how you feel about yourself and how you look to yourself and it will be better. Good luck.

I had to enter the next two twice before they registered points. The first time I got a message that said "not valid" or something like that.

He sat up for the first time on his own. We had never tried and then his Daddy got the bright idea. He set him up and Landon just sat there. We laughed and yelled because we were so excited and he had this look on his face like he wanted to say, "what’s the big deal? I could do this all along guys."
